About
Val Montanez is a photographer, designer and recent University of Kansas graduate based in Lawrence and the greater Kansas City area.
She served as the Multimedia Editor at the University Daily Kansan, Kansas’ student-run newspaper and freelanced for the Lawrence Journal-World, one of Lawrence’s public newspapers, covering high school sports for the past two years. In the past, she was a photographer for the Kansas City Monarchs, a professional baseball team in the American Association, an MLB partner. She earned a degree in May 2026 with a B.S. in Journalism and Mass Communication with minors in sport management and photography from the University of Kansas.
