About
Val Montanez is a photographer, designer and a senior at the University of Kansas based in Lawrence and the greater Kansas City area.
She is currently the Head Photo Editor at the University Daily Kansan, Kansas’ student-run newspaper. She also freelances for the Lawrence Journal-World, one of Lawrence’s public newspapers, covering high school sports and the Pitch KC, a Kansas City culture magazine. In the past, she was a photographer for the Kansas City Monarchs, a professional baseball team in the American Association, an MLB partner. She is set to graduate in May 2026 with a B.S. in Journalism and Mass Communication with minors in sport management and photography.
